How To Help This Week!

Happy Monday All!

This week we need to find someone to grocery shop with Mary on Thursdays for May and June, since her caregiver is taking those months off. Please call me if you can help out (it would be great to get 2 or so folks for back up and to rotate through.)

We need some folks who can repair a deck and steps for Karen (she's afraid she'll fall through!)

Also a mechanically minded individual who can check out Helen's mower (she suspects it just needs a spark plug)

And finally, Holly needs help organizing, packing and moving some things from her trailer to a storage unit (we have helped her before and she is doing very well now, just needs some extra hands to get herself settled!)

Thank you for helping these kind neighbors!

Now I wanted to share with you a fabulous new public service announcement from our partners, 211. If you haven't heard of them and the awesome stuff they do - this is worth a few seconds to watch - and pass on to folks you know who could use their help!
Have a great rest of your day!

Update 4/25/12

Hey folks! Wow we have almost all the needs that I posted yesterday met already! Here's what is still out there:
Helen needs someone to check out her mower and possibly replace the spark plug. . .
Brittany needs a back up person in case something comes up to take Mary to the grocery store. . . And Mary needs someone to fix the track on the sliding glass door.
That's it so far!
Can you give a bit of time for your neighbor sometime soon? Let me know!
Enjoy this beautiful Spring day!
Love,

Mowing. . . Help Mary get her groceries. . Keep letting folks know they matter!

Hey there fabulous volunteers!
This week the mowing requests are warming up just like the weather! Can you mow for:
Joyce - she and her husband are elderly, have a small yard and just cannot physically mow it this year. She also needs the water turned on for the trailer so she can water the yard!
Linda is having neck surgery on May 1st and her husband has stage 4 cancer. They have a mower and a small yard too!
Thank you to Jeanne who is mowing for Helen with her own push mower, but she needs someone to come and see if Helen's mower needs a new spark plug (the suspected problem!) and help her fix it.
Then we have Mary! She normally has a volunteer help her shop for groceries every Thursday from 10am to Noon.  Her regular volunteer will be gone from the end of May through June.  Do we have a volunteer who might be able to sub? She also needs a contractor-type to see why the grip on her sliding glass door makes it so hard to open and close.
Thank you to Mark T., Marc C.,Isaac M., and Andrew L. and Bill for moving Mary on Saturday! And at lightning speed :)
Let me know what you can do to help our dear neighbors! Every time we do these simple things for them, we send the precious message "You are not alone, and you matter."
Thanks!

PS "i am missoula" t-shirts are at the MSO Hub store! And there are 12 cases of All Souls Ale left! We have a "donate" button on the website! Spread the word and support this wonderful work, please. :) Thank you!

Mowing, Raking and Beer!

Hi everyone!
I just got this in:
Linda is having neck surgery May 1 and her husband has stage 4 cancer. They do not have not kids to help and have limited disability income. Linda reports that it is a small lawn and she has a mower, and she needs a mow. IM helped them last Oct. when she had stomach surgery, can we help her again?
And we could use a person to mow at Helen's, a person to rake at Sharon's and help for Travis to rake the rest of Lou Ann's (apparently enormous!) yard.
Can you take some time out in the (reportedly) gorgeous weather this weekend to help these folks out?
Let me know!
BTW,  Do you know how much Missoula is loving Imagine Missoula? Allegiance Benefit Plan Management chose us for their "Jean's Day" donation - so generous and so very needed! Thank you so much :)
And there are 12, that's right 12 cases of Limited Edition 2012 All Souls Ale left! Pick up the beer you ordered or grab one (or part!) of these while you still can! Thanks Big Sky Brewing!
Have a great weekend,
Love,
Nina

Clark Fork Cleanup (2012)

Clark Fork Cleanup - 2010
Hey friends - It's that time of year again! Team up with Imagine Missoula & the Clark Fork Coalition this Saturday to help with the annual river clean-up! Woo hoo!

The past couple of years we've had over 30 volunteers and we cleaned up a BIG chunk of the river just east of the California Street Walking Bridge. This year, it looks like we'll have the same section. And hopefully, there will be even more of us! The cleanup takes about 3 hours, and it's a great way to get together with friends and family to help make our community a better place. Plus there's a BBQ in Caras Park afterward! :-)
  • DETAILS: Meet at Caras Park under the big tent @ 9:45 AM this Saturday, April 21 to find the team and register (Jess Folmar is the point person, and we could use a couple of other folks to help her)
  • RSVP: on facebook or by email (jess.folmar@gmail.com | 552-5297)
  • KIDS: Yes! This is a GREAT event to bring your kids to! They'll have a blast and learn to value our environment at the same time!
That's pretty much it! You can help us by spreading the word and joining us on Saturday! Hope to see you all there! (ps - you can click here to view the photos from last year's cleanup...)

How to help this week!

Happy Monday Imagine Missoula!
This week, can you help these lovely neighbors in need?

Carmen needs the threads on part of her carpet trimmed so that her husband (who has cancer and other illnesses) stops tripping on them (easy peasy!)

Our dear friend Sharon needs her yard raked (sunny day = get it done!)

Fred and his sister (they are both in their 70's :) need our help moving - they have lost their home. They have two other sisters who are helping them, but they are all in their 70's and have physical limitations, and they need lots of hands and backs on this one! When I met them, I was impressed with how much they all laugh together, even though things are so hard for them right now. We are thinking next Saturday or Sunday (21st or 22nd).

Kathleen called me and told me her hard story, and I went to meet her. When she opened the door we shouted "Oh it's YOU!" and fell crying into each others arms. I have met her (and her babies) before on many occasions (how very Missoula!) She needs folks to go on a schedule to give her rides to her get her children from Ravalli on Friday's at 11 and take them back to her ex on Sundays at 6. I am working on a spreadsheet of people who can help her with these precious twice-a-month visits.

And on April 21st (next Saturday!) we are working with some of our friends from Youth Homes to participate in the Annual Clark Fork Clean Up! If you would like to make Missoula even more beautiful, please contact Jess 552-5297.

A good range of time/effort work this week! Love it. These folks are all delightful. Please let me know as soon as you can if you can help them and I will do the rest. Thank you for being a part of something so simple - it is making a HUGE impact on our town!

What A Week! On the Radar! New Ways to Support IM!

Hey folks! What a week! I am completely impressed (again!) with the generous heart you share as one of the most diverse group of volunteers I have ever known! You met SEVEN needs this week! Woot!! What an unbelievable show of loving care.

Please put these two folks (and one event!) on your radar for next week:

Fred and his twin sister (they are both 70! :) need our help moving - they have lost their home. They have two other sisters who are helping them get a new place, but they need our people power to get them where they need to be! We are thinking next Saturday or Sunday (21st or 22nd).

Kathleen called me and told me her hard story, and I went to meet her yesterday.

This weekend, remember to swing by Big Sky Brewery's taproom to grab your All Souls Ale, then head downtown to the MSO Hub store to grab a t-shirt (and enter to win a free bottle of All Souls Ale, too!) and then check out or website - we finally have a DONATE button! Yipee!! Also, listen for our Community Kindness Project radio spots on U 104.5, Trail 103.3, Jack 105.9 and ESPN Montana 97.5! Imagine Missoula is blooming!

Spread the word, please, about these easy and fun ways to support our elderly, single parents, and other neighbors who have had no one to turn to - but now trust us to be there for them! Thank you.

Have a great weekend!
Love,
Nina 546-4697

WOW! Four down, three to go!

Hi everyone!

Liz and her friends have Fred taken care of! Woo hoo!
Kate and Heather have Marlene!
Tracy and her hubby have Sheila!
Shelby has Mary!

This is so cool! I am jumping up and down :)

Four down, three to go (Helen said to hold off for a couple more weeks for that mow)

Who can help Lou Ann rake, Barb rake and aerate, and Carmen with that pesky carpet?

Let me know!
You are wonderful. Waiting to hear from folks who can help our other neighbors - this is the most exciting part! The best part is meeting these lovely folks who need us ♥

Wow!

Wowza we have a LOT of requests this week!
Good thing we are awesome and have Big-Heart Super Powers!
Our friend Marlene, who we planted a garden for last year after her husband passed away (he used to plant it,) would like us to help her with another one (the food helps her supplement her tiny food budget.)
Lou Ann needs her yard raked (it snowed on the day Rebekah was going to do it last week :)
Mary needs her hoses laid out for her to water and needs her sliding glass door reset on the track.
Helen needs her lawn mowed,
Barb needs her lawn raked and aerated,
Sheila needs her yard (she has potted plants and knick knacks, other stuff) organized,
Fred is a man with heart stints who needs a treadmill (purchased by Scott and Laura! Thank you!) delivered to him in Florence so that he can get his health on track,
Carmen is an elderly woman who's husband has cancer and he keeps tripping on a section of carpet in their hallway. Can you go and trim it for them?
We can do this! One person, one neighbor, one friend at a time :) Call me and tell me what days/times work for you to help these folks and I will get you together. GO IMAGINE MISSOULA!!!
Nina 546-4697

* Update! We have all of the jobs covered except for Carmen and the pesky carpet, Barb's lawn, and Lou Ann's raking job! Let's keep it rolling!!

YARDWORK! YEAY!

Hey there everyone!
Happy Monday!
We have some lovely folks to help in their yards and a couple of other interesting needs this week:

Lou Ann is an elderly woman who has a "big yard" that needs raking!

Sheila is a woman living with physical disabilities who needs us to clean up her yard!

Lanicka has all the parts, but needs us to assemble her shed!

Malayia is a single mom who needs some repairs and painting done on her current home so she can move at the end of the month!

And Helen is looking for someone to commit to mowing for her this summer - let's get Team Mow 2012 started! Who is interested?

Let's get out there and help these neighbors! They are so happy to have found so many big hearts and willing hands in this beautiful town :)

Thank you
to to Tylyn, Darik and Susan for cleaning Don's place on Friday evening! All your hard work paid off - Don is getting his deposit back!

And remember - you can grab your All Souls Ale at the Big Sky taproom and support this amazing community!

Thank you,
Nina Alviar 546-4697
