Community Groups to the Rescue!

Good news!
I received a phone call from a guy named Greg who got our number from Andrea at the Office of Civic Engagement on campus. He said he had a church group coming in from Illinois (connected to Convergence Church in Missoula,) and they wanted some big service projects to do. Yipee!! They will be painting Cindy's trailer and Diane's house! If you would like to join them (just met them last night and chatted about how to volunteer with Imagine Missoula - they are super nice folks) let me know. There is always room for more hands!

AND I also received a call from Amy at Missoula Youth Homes and they would like to send a group of kids from their Inner Roads program (with adults, too) to help move Sarah on the 8th! We still need to have some Imagine Missoula volunteers there to drive the u-haul and carry the heavier stuff.

It is always amazing to get offers for help from great organizations in Missoula. Come to one of these jobs and meet these wonderful folks!
Oh, and remember to RSVP to the Orientation on Saturday!

Have a great day!

This Week- Painting, Moving and More!

Hi all!
Last week was quiet, I hope you enjoyed a rest!
And this week, we have two painting jobs and some moving on the horizon:

This Thursday at 9am, we will be painting Cindy's trailer! We have all the supplies, and just need folks to put a second coat on the body and a new coat on the trim. She is living with many physical ailments and needs our help to keep her home in good shape!

This Friday, we will be scraping one exterior wall (it's peeling) and putting the first coat of paint on Diane's house, then wrapping up with the second coat on Sunday. Diane is a senior who cannot afford to have her home painted, and she wants to stay proud of her lovely house!

And on August 8th, we will be moving Sarah, a lovely woman whose son in law passed away, so she needs to sell her home to help her daughter pay the medical bills from his treatments. We need plenty of hands and feet (and backs!) to help her.

Let's get a lot of hands on deck for these bigger (but fun!) jobs. Call me if you can help - 546-4697.

Also, if you haven't RSVP'd yet, please let me know if you plan to come to the Imagine Missoula Volunteer Orientation this Saturday, July 30th from 10-11:30 am. You will have a chance to meet other volunteers, hear their stories, and also ask lots of questions about Imagine Missoula! We will wrap up with a presentation from an expert in disaster relief. She will go over free courses for disaster preparedness if you would like to develop those skills. Home Health of Montana has offered to host us, and provide coffee and breakfast treats! Aren't they awesome? Please park behind the building at 1903 Russell St (on the corner of North and Russell.)

And finally- guess what?? United Way of Missoula County has offered for us to have our Saturday Market table on the lawn of their building (by the XXXX) all summer! Come and get your Imagine Missoula t-shirts (yes, I will bring some to the Orientation,) All Souls Ale t-shirts, and pre-order the new All Souls Ale from Big Sky Brewery!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

This one can't wait!

Hey folks!
Got a call today from a woman who needs a ride to Walmart to pick up an air conditioner (she will buy it) and take it home, up the stairs, and install it for her. Luckily, it's not to hot today! Can you help her today, or tomorrow morning?
Let me know - call please in case I am not on here. 546-4697
UPDATE: Joseph C. has got it - thanks Joseph!

Update This Week. . .

Hi all!
This past weekend, Ethan from City Brew, Susan Hay Patrick from United Way of Missoula County and our own Tara, her mother, Jackie and her daughter Paisley had a blast at the Saturday Market table selling Receding Waters Blend Coffee for the flood victims!. What great teamwork! They will be at it again this Saturday, and you can pick yours up at the City Brew on Broadway, the United Way of Missoula County office, the Orange Street Food Farm and Wordens, too! (this has been updated because of a mistake last post - GFS does not have the coffee - sorry!)

Imagine Missoula will have it's own table this week at the Saturday Market (location TBA) so come and grab your Imagine Missoula t-shirt, and learn more about IM! You can even grab an All Souls Ale t-shirt (that's right!) and pre-order the new All Souls Ale (yummy!!)

Thank you to Amy and Sundee for working on Brenda's lawn and yard, to Steve and Angie for coordinating to mow Lillians, to Scott for going to change Michelle's snow tires, and to Catherine and Penny for continuing to help in Marlene's gardens. We are working on throwing the tent top on for Sharon, and Barb's mom's wheelchair ramp. You are amazing and making a huge difference!

Thank you also to Shantelle for donating her weedwacker! And to Bethel Baptist Church for holding a garage sale this weekend and splitting the proceeds between Imagine Missoula and Missoula Aging Services! (Now that's generous - we didn't even ask them to do this for us. Wow!) BTW, Bethel Baptist is hosting a free Family Fun Night at Splash Montana on Sunday July 24th. No catch, just a night for families to hang out together. If interested, email Ryan:

This week, we don't have a lot of personal needs, (some projects are in the works, waiting for confirmation on dates, times, etc.) However, we have a special request:

It's from The Montana Audio Network, which is a radio company for folks who have trouble reading, so they can tune into to listen to people read to them! How cool is that? Check them out:
They want to know if any of our volunteers would like to run the cash register at their booth with Baskin Robbins at the Western Montana Fair (AUGUST 9-14) and it includes free entrance. Here are the details:
"We need people Wednesday and Friday from 10-10. If people can do one all day shift with several breaks, that is great, or could split the day into two shifts. We need one person for Saturday, 10-5, and one for Sunday 10-5. We have someone for all day either Tuesday OR Thursday, and will need to cover the other day. Just need one volunteer at a time to run the cash register."
If you'd like to take a shift, let me know and I will put you in touch with them.

Come on down to the Central this Thursday for Nonprofit Social Hour and raise a pint with other amazing organizations in Missoula! We will share ideas and support each other.

And finally,
If you haven't RSVP'd yet, let me know if you will be joining us at the Imagine Missoula Volunteer Orientation on July 30th form 10-11:30 am! Thank you!

Thank you for all you do!

How to Help This Week!

Hi all!
Thank you and welcome to our new members! We will be hosting a Volunteer Orientation Breakfast on July 30th at 10am - 11:30am. Location still in the works, but put this on your calendar as a chance to meet me (and for me to meet YOU!,) ask questions, have them answered and learn more about what it means to be a volunteer for Imagine Missoula! We will wrap up with a short presentation from our friend who works in Emergency Services as she leads us to free trainings to prepare us for big disaster events (like floods.) Come and have some coffee and a treat!
What a great week - thank you Jim A. for putting in Heather's AC unit (and for doing all the carpentry to make it work!) thank you Nick T. for taking care of Janene's yard, to Catherine H. and Penny L. for making Marlene's garden and life more beautiful, to all the Superheroes, their parents, and Penny M. and Catherine H. for painting Sharon's fence, and finally thank you to Angie B., Tara I. and Paisley for helping to sell Receding Waters Blend Coffee to raise money for the Missoula flood victims!

Call me if you can meet a need this week:

We still need someone with a lawnmower that they can transport to mow for Lillian for the rest of the Summer. Let me know if you want to help, but don't have a mower or a truck to transport one. We will work something out!

Sharon needs two folks to take about 10 minutes to throw the new top onto her tent she uses for storage and tie it down. That's an easy one!

And Michelle, a single mother, needs someone to change out her snow tires for her (she just received a citation for them that she can't afford.) She also needs someone to get the "something" that is stuck out of her washing machine. She needs our help as soon as possible.

Did you see the new amazing Imagine Missoula t-shirts? They were selling themselves at the markets this weekend - they are so beautiful and eye catching they speak for themselves! The proceeds from the t-shirts (which are only $18!) go toward helping us continue to help our neighbors. Come down to the Saturday Market this week and buy yours!

Thank you, wonderful volunteers!

IM and the Superheroes

THAT was sooo fun! Our fence painting job was a blast with the Superheroes of Kindness! (or was it Lucero painting? He has as much paint on his person as the fence does :)
Sharon is so happy! Thank you Catherine, Penny, Dodge and Mason, Kristal and Bridget, Julie with Stephen and Connor, and Alex with Marquez and Lucero!! The Imagine Missoula grown ups showed the little ones that kindness lasts a lifetime.

Superheroes, coffee and more this week!

Good Morning Imagine Missoula!

I hope you had a fun long weekend! Here's what is needed this week:

First: Tomorrow, Wednesday July 6th is the day we have been waiting for - staining Sharon's fence with the Superheroes of Kindness! Come and join the pint sized heroes with your full size energy and let's get this fence done! She also needs us to throw a new top on her storage tent (easy-peasy) and a couple other little things. Call me ASAP and let me know if you'll be joining the fun - 5:30 pm.

Second: We need two more volunteers (thanks Angie!) to sell Receding Waters Coffee at the Sunday Carousel Market, this Sunday July 10th! Come out and help City Brew Coffee and Untied Way raise money for our neighbors who are struggling from the floods. 10-3.

I received this email today: "Nina, here are the things we need: One woman is disabled and needs assistance installing an AC in her apartment. The other is a man who is also disabled and needs help installing equipment to make his bathroom more safe - i.e. 2 grab bars, different shower head and a special toilet seat. Both of these clients' landlords won't install the items for them without charge, and they can't afford to pay for it and our program can't either. They already have the equipment we purchased or had donated. Their landlord said that outside people can install the items as long as they are done by a person who either is or has been a professional at this type of thing (like construction, contractors, etc.)" If you or someone you know meets the qualification and can do this, let me know!

Lillian (you gotta check out her teapot collection!) still needs someone to mow her lawn for her for the rest of the summer. She doesn't have a mower, so if you can bring yours, fantastic! If you need help with this, that's what I'm here for.

And last but not least: Our friend Penny needs someone to haul away broken windows and glass from her yard and take the stuff to the dump.

What you do makes a huge difference every time you touch a person's life with your care. You are always amazing to me and to the folks in town who know that Imagine Missoula will be there when people need us. Keep bringing this joy to our wonderful friends in this beautiful place.

Thank you!
