I spoke with Ruth out at Tower Road and she reports that with the surges of volunteers set up for today, the area is stabilized for now! What an AMAZING effort everyone made! Many homes were lost, but the ones that could be saved were saved because of the quick delivery of sand and bags from Public Works and County Roads, the coordination of Missoula 211, the traffic control from the Sheriff's department, the fantastic folks at the hot line, Kurt and others at United Way, Missoula 911, Missoula County, the Army Corps of Engineers and - most importantly - the sandbagging power of volunteers! You did something that has made our community closer and stronger, and the appreciation of the folks there can never be expressed in words.
Here's a shout out to businesses in Missoula who have donated food and supplies for the relief so far:
The Good Food Store
Ace Hardware Eastgate
Ace Hardware Trempers
The story isn't over yet. . . If you would like to volunteer at the Mullan site that is flooding and any other flood sites currently in need of hands and backs, please call Kurt at 406-544-4076 today. Tower is as good as can be, but the flood danger is still in force for others. (If anything changes on Tower, I will post an update right away.)
Thank you for all you have done and are doing to make Missoula a better place, one sandbag at a time!
